GMP stands for “Good Manufacturing Practice” – Good manufacturing practice; includes general principles, regulations, guidelines for basic contents on production conditions; applicable to production facilities manufacturing, processing, packaging food, products, medical equipment, cosmetics, etc., to ensure product quality and safety.
Blood and blood products cannot be produced artificially, but must be obtained from voluntary blood donors, through the production process and prepared to ensure safety and quality, to be used for patients in the following cases. emergency, serious illness, or blood transfusion is indicated. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the highest quality and safety. For that reason, blood products with high safety and quality standards provide peace of mind to the community. To achieve this, the application of principles of good manufacturing practice – GMP from collection, storage, preparation, dispensing, quality control, during whole blood preparation helps to ensure blood products are produced stably and controlled according to quality standards and are fit for use.
With the desire to contribute to improving the quality of blood products and thanks to the long-term partnership between Medcomtech and the Dutch Blood Bank – Sanquin. From July 12 to 15, 2022, Medcomtech Joint Stock Company invited Dr. Willem Martinus Smid – Executive Director of the National Blood Bank of the Netherlands (Sanquin), president of the state that manages the blood supply of the International Society for Blood Transfusion (ISBT) to Vietnam participated in the assessment mission, discussed about GMP at major hospitals in the field of blood transfusion and hematology across the country such as BTH, Cho Ray, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
Dr. Willem Martinus Smid and the Medcomtech delegation met, discussed and worked directly with the leaders of the hospitals. Visiting departments, learning and evaluating the process of receiving, preparing, storing blood products and evaluating quality management documents according to EU GMP standards. From there, record and give suggestions on the current process of the Hospitals. According to Mr. Dr. Smid, his personal opinion a standard procedure is when “You feel safe when transferring these blood products to your children and close people”
